When ChatGPT Knows You Better Than You Know Yourself

AI-Powered Self-Discovery: Because Who Needs a Therapist?

Recently, I came across a reel that gave me an idea: What if I used ChatGPT to dig a little deeper into my own motivations and growth? Turns out, it’s an ego boost with a twist of introspection. Here’s what I discovered…

The Prompt That Started It All

I asked ChatGPT: “What do you know about me that I might not know about myself based on our previous interactions?”

And here’s what it gave me

Nice! I’ll take the AI-generated ego boost…

Not gonna lie — AI can be surprisingly accurate. It felt like ChatGPT knew me better than myself, highlighting things I definitely resonate with. Especially when it came to the reminder not to get too caught up in the rat race. (Just two BUCS kids trying to keep it real, if ykyk)

The Follow-Up: Five Future Self Questions

Curious to go even deeper, I then asked: “Based on everything you know about me, create five questions to ask my future self.” Here are the questions that really hit home:

“How has your approach to balancing professional ambition with personal well-being evolved? Have you managed to maintain that balance, or have your priorities shifted?”

Back in school, chasing goals usually beat out self-care — though I still managed to have a good time! Now with full-time work, it’s different. There’s no grading or structured feedback; it’s up to me to carve out what balance means, and I’m trying to prioritize well-being more than ever, even with the infinite pressure to perform.

“Looking back, what’s the most surprising lesson you’ve learned about effective storytelling, both in your career and in your personal projects?”

It’s often less about what you say and more about the confidence and effort behind it. Just getting started and making each iteration better than the last — that’s what counts most.

“Have any of your side projects or experiments, like the AI-driven stock trading assistant or the Chrome extension, turned into something bigger than expected? If so, what impact have they had on your career or personal life?”

Not yet, but they’re definitely in progress. Just seeing people use something I created and finding value in it feels impactful. Who knows where it could lead?

“What’s one risk you took, personally or professionally, that paid off in ways you didn’t anticipate? And what’s one risk that didn’t go as planned, but taught you something valuable?”

Setting boundaries has been a game-changer; it’s allowed me to reclaim my time for what genuinely matters to me. On the other hand, living at home post-graduation felt like it would offer a balance of productivity and social connection, but it’s been a reminder that your environment has a huge influence on your success.

“How have your travel experiences and solo adventures influenced your view on success and happiness? Do you still see them as essential parts of your journey, or have your views changed?”

Seeing how people live worldwide has made me optimistic about the future. Many are realizing more and more that life isn’t just about work; it’s about balance and family. There’s a noticeable shift from living to work to working to live, finding meaning in the everyday.

These questions from ChatGPT gave me a solid framework to check in on my own path forward. I’m more excited than ever for what’s next, trusting that if I stick to my daily habits and keep refining my vision, I’ll keep moving in the right direction.
